Destination Tweed will kick-off their first annual Twee Artisan Food Weekend a three-day event celebrating the dynamic food and drink scene throughout the Tweed Valley – from 18-20 October.  

Tweed Artisan Food Weekend will feature farms, restaurants and food producers with curated culinary experiences which showcase ingredients unique to the Tweed region. These include farm-fresh organic produce, hand-crafted cheeses, local brews, wild-harvested sustainable meat and artisan food and drink.

Weekend highlights include: 

Stamp & Grind Sugar Mill Tour

Ever wondered how sugar cane becomes sugar? Did you know Sunshine Sugar has produced the world’s first Low-GI sugar, maintaining its compounds even when used in baking. The clever, community-minded folk at the recently renovated Stamp & Grind (previously the Condong Store), are now offering tours of the Condong Sugar Mill. Closed to the public for many years, the new Mill Tours offer an insight into another (sweet) world.

Stone & Wood Brewery Tour & Tasting

There could be no better way to start your weekend than with a Stone & Wood Tour and Tasting at Stone & Wood’s Murwillumbah brewery, the main manufacturing site for this global drink sensation. Rarely open to the public, the brewery is offering an afternoon tour and tasting session.

Take in views of Wollumbin (Mt Warning) as guests visit the production site set in Murwillumbah’s growing industrial food precinct. Check out the large scale site and drink a variety of brews. Tour numbers are limited.

Temple Door Cooking School

Temple Door Cooking School is offering Asian, Seafood and Bush Tucker cooking classes. Each four hour class is hands-on with every student having their own preparation area, oven/hotplate, utensils and ingredients. Students prepare their own dishes, including entrée, main and dessert as well as tips and tricks on plating up skills. Then guests will eat their own meals accompanied with a glass of wine or beer as they take in views of Wollumbin (Mt Warning) in the Bali-inspired outdoor dining area. Gluten-free diets are catered for. Class numbers are limited.

Meet the Farmers atPotager: A Kitchen Garden

A small farm set high on the hilltops at Carool above The Tweed Valley, featuring Potager: a Kitchen Garden is serving up a feast to celebrate the Tweed Artisan Food Weekend. Guests will meet local producers and farmers over lunch prepared by chef Ryan Severn, showcasing Fair Game Wild Venison. 

Join Husk Distillery’s Harriet Messenger in the gardens on arrival for a welcome cocktail. Before dining on fresh produce from the gardens, have a chat with Potager gardener, Matt. Enjoy the premium quality venison and hear Fair Game Wild Venison’s Jonas Widjaja share his solution to support struggling farmers while relieving environmental stress.

Intimate picnic on-farm experience with Blue Ginger Picnics

An afternoon of food, cocktails and nature begins at the gates of the secluded Finger Lime Farm, nestled in the Tweed Valley.  

Guests will sip on a welcome cocktail at the ‘hidden bridge’ where they’ll learn about the diversity of the Tweed region through its natural and cultural history, followed by a  tour of the farm which takes in views across to iconic Wollumbin (Mt Warning). 

Guests arrive at the luxury picnic setting beneath a canopy of trees. Find a relaxing setting featuring plush cushions, cozy recycled-cotton rugs, barn-door tables, local and hand-built ceramic tableware and linen napkins. Feast on a delicious array of 100% local produce, including handmade cheeses, dips, grass-fed meats, freshly harvested vegetables, fruit platter, organic olives, rustic bread and other antipasto delicacies, complimented by a glass of wine. 

Following lunch, continue through the farm to a tea station where guests can enjoy a variety of local teas to finish off the afternoon.

Ian from Sylva Lining Organics will guide guests through his thriving organic farm in the heart of the Tweed. 

The farm tour covers fresh produce, chickens and farming techniques and will give guests the opportunity to buy farm-fresh produce to take home. The tour will finish with lunch under the trees, provided by Johnno at Juju’s café. Lunch options will be sourced from organic produce on the farm and will include drinks.
