The Government of Maldives has decided to take additional precautionary measures with regard to COVID-19 on 6th March 2020. The Government of Maldives has decided to temporarily restrict entry to Maldives, persons travelling from, or transiting through Italy, within the past 14 days, effective from 12am on 8th March 2020.
In previous announcements, the Government of Maldives has decided passengers with travel history to the following regions within the last 14 days will not be allowed to enter or transit through Maldives as per below effective dates:
Iran from 26th February 2020.
North Gyeongsang Province and South Gyeongsang Province of Republic of South Korea from 3rd March 2020
Mainland China effective 04 February 2020
Furthermore, from 26th February Cruise ships have also been temporarily suspended from docking at the Maldives
Therefore all direct flights from Italy, Iran, Mainland China and mentioned areas of South Korea has been temporarily suspended from the said dates (please refer to Maldives Civil Aviation Authority Circular – 7th March 2020). All travelers visiting Maldives should check latest updates on arrival and departure flights to Maldives.
Maldivians travelling from affected areas will be subject to 14 days of quarantine, once they arrive in the Maldives. As a further precaution, the Government has also advised Maldivian nationals against all none essential travel to countries where cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed.
As advised by WHO for entry screening in countries without transmission of novel coronavirus 2019-nCov, all international tourists and Maldivian citizens arriving to Maldives on international flights will be screened for temperature upon entry. Arrivals will be asked to complete a health declaration card.
If you are a traveler currently in Maldives, that has recently travelled to affected regions within the last 14 days and are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties please stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu, inform the relevant tourism establishment that you are staying in and proceed to call the 24/7 Health Protection Agency hotline at 1676.
