Unusual airline habits: drying underwear by air vent

February 21, 2018 Headline News No Comments Email Email

Connoisseurs of unusual in-flight conduct have another item to add to their collection – a video showing a woman drying her underwear in the airstream from a plane’s overhead air-conditioning vent. The clip, which has gone viral, is still less offensive than the earlier behaviour of a man with a pair of smelly socks.

As in-flight eccentricity goes, panty drying is in the minor league. The knickers were presumably clean and had been washed, which is why the woman wanted to dry them.

It took a while, apparently. The owner of the underwear, who was flying from Antalya, Turkey to Moscow, held her panties over her head to dry in the breeze for about 20 minutes, on and off. (Your arms get tired if you do it continuously.)

Other passengers on the Ural Airlines flight said the woman had not seemed embarrassed during the process.

Panty drying is more savoury than the behaviour of a male passenger on a Middle Eastern flight a few years ago. The man removed his shoes and his long socks, draping the rather smelly socks over the back of his seat, so they hung down in front of the passenger behind.

It was just before meal service was due to begin.

The passenger behind, suddenly confronted by the aromatic socks, objected strenuously. A flight attendant finally persuaded the owner to remove them and stow them elsewhere.
