Spread the love

We remain committed to our number one priority – safety. Starting next week, we’ll make some temporary changes to the airport and onboard experience to promote social distancing and ensure the safety of both customers and employees, including:

Restricting advanced seat selection for adjacent seats in all cabins

Spacing out customer boarding to minimize crowding

Processing Complimentary Premier Upgrades at the departure gate in priority order

We’re using signage and floor markings to promote six-foot distancing, as well as beginning to install plexiglass dividers at customer service counters. We’re reducing touch points by disabling self-service kiosks, streamlining onboard meal and beverage services and removing common-use materials like Hemispheres from the seat back.

Additionally, we are now the first major U.S. airline to require our flight attendants to wear a face mask or covering while on duty. In tandem, we have adjusted our pre-trip communications to recommend that customers also wear a face mask during their travels.

The inevitable question is, what’s next? We’re testing a number of initiatives, such as temperature checks for airport employees and flight attendants at select airports. Our team is evaluating all aspects of the travel journey with the goal of delivering a safe and clean travel experience today and into the future. We’re innovating for a healthier tomorrow and I look forward to sharing these details with you soon.

How we’re keeping you safe

Throughout it all, my United colleagues continue to deliver on our promise of connecting people and uniting the world. Departments throughout United are delivering creative solutions to today’s unique challenges. One of our cargo facilities at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport has been transformed into a food distribution center to support the Houston Food Bank. The team is moving up to 6,000 disaster relief boxes and produce bags per shift every day as well as loading up to 120 volunteer vehicle pick-ups to be delivered to communities and families in need.

There’s a lot more extraordinary work happening at United than I could do justice to here, so please check out the video below. It’s this type of exceptional teamwork and commitment to our customers, our employees, and our communities that makes me proud to be a part of the United family. Be safe, be healthy, and we will talk again soon.
