Arches & Bryce Canyon National Parks Designated Dark Sky Parks
Utah is already home to the highest concentration of accredited international dark sky parks and communities on the planet, but now Arches and Bryce Canyon National Parks – two of Utah’s Mighty 5® – have been certified as Utah’s latest International Dark Sky Parks. The U.S. National Park Service and the International Dark-Sky Association recognized the parks for their quality night skies and commitment to protecting and sharing natural darkness. Bryce Canyon’s certification was granted on the 50th anniversary of its astronomy programming. Move Over East Coast! Fall Colour Comes to Utah
Utah is known for its red rock landscapes, but until the end of October it also boasts some of the best fall foliage visitors will find in the United States. Utah is home to 11 Scenic Byways offering leaf peeping opportunities. In Northern Utah, travelling the Logan Canyon National Scenic Bywayallows visitors to sample the harvest season through this rich agricultural area ablaze with colour, including the turquoise waters of Bear Lake; nicknamed “the Caribbean of the Rockies.” In Southern Utah, the Patchwork Parkway National Scenic Byway(known as Southern Utah’s Fall Colour Loop), connects three scenic byways and features Cedar Breaks National Monument. www.visitutah.com/
New Jurassic National Monument
Utah’s Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry was recently designated a National Monument named Jurassic National Monument. The new monument is located near Cleveland, Utah which is home to the densest collection of Jurassic era fossils anywhere in the world. Jurassic National Monument incorporates the quarry, the visitor centre and the surrounding land. The visitor centre offers an array of fossil and scientific information to budding paleontologists and has complete Allosaurus and Stegosaurus skeletons on display.
