A video showing a two-year-old boy’s wild adventure – after he gave his mother the slip, climbed on a baggage carousel and was swept into a luggage chute at one of the world’s biggest airports – has become one of the most hair-raising but compelling clips on the net.

Edith Vega put her son Lorenzo, 2, down for a moment to print a boarding pass at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, biggest airport in the US.

One moment was all it took for Lorenzo to reach the carousel and climb on it.

Security video released by the airport shows what happened next. The action starts when the first camera records the toddler disappearing feet-first through a rubber curtain, along with hundreds of passenger suitcases.

Video then shows him crawling over bags, trying to avoid being pulled through a large screening machine.  The conveyor is too fast, and it pulls him inside.

Video from other cameras shows some of the rest. You should see those airport workers spring into action, when they see Lorenzo on the belt in the inside of the baggage handling system!

Mother’s worry. Little Lorenzo climbs on the baggage belt

The boy’s hand was fractured but otherwise he is OK.

“I’m thankful he’s alive,” his mother told local channel WSB-TV.

“That’s all that goes through my mind. I’m just grateful he’s here.”
