From 10 April 2019, the airline will operate three weekly return services until October on its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, marking its first international operation from Darwin just in time for the Easter school holiday peak travel period.
Virgin Australia General Manager, Network, Revenue Management and Alliances, Russell Shaw, said: “Today marks 17 years to the day since our first flight to Darwin and since then, we’ve continued to build upon our presence and make travel more accessible for Territorians.

“Our guests will now have more choice and flexibility when looking to fly to Bali, with Virgin Australia offering what we believe is the most convenient schedule on this route, allowing for our guests to arrive well before midnight when travelling from Darwin to Bali,” Mr Shaw said.

The CEO of Northern Territory Airports, Mr Ian Kew, said: “We are delighted that Virgin Australia has decided to commence operations on this highly sought-after route, its only overseas destination from Darwin. Daytime services departing from Denpasar, coupled with the competitive fare structure Virgin Australia is renowned for, will be a winning combination for Territorians.

“We are confident that through the support of Territorians, there will be strong demand for these services,” Mr Kew said.

The Northern Territory Government has also placed support behind this seasonal route, with the Minister for Tourism and Culture, the Hon. Lauren Moss MLA, saying: “The Northern Territory Government welcomes this news. Territorians are looking for greater accessibility to holiday destinations and more choice when it comes to air travel.

“We have been advocating for some time to attract another carrier to the Darwin – Denpasar route. It’s great to have Virgin Australia respond to that call,” Minister Moss said.

Virgin Australia currently offers flights to Bali from Brisbane, Sydney and Port Hedland and flights to Darwin from Alice Springs, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. These new seasonal flights from Darwin will add more than 1000 seats per week into this market between April and October, which will provide better travel options for guests travelling between Darwin and Bali.

To add to the travel convenience, eligible guests will also be able to access the Virgin Australia Lounge at Darwin International Airport and the Taurus Gemilang Lounge at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar before their flight departs.

Flights between Darwin and Bali will go on sale from 11:30am (AEDT), with all-inclusive airfares available from $199 one way1. Flights can be booked on www.virginaustralia.com2.
