Virgin Australia Group Executive Brand, Marketing and Public Affairs, Danielle Keighery, said it was important for the airline to contribute to initiatives that promote new and emerging Australian artists.

“Virgin Australia is proud to support the Australian music industry and we are delighted to award this scholarship to G Flip. We take pride in making travel as simple and affordable as possible for emerging artists who are breaking into the industry, and we look forward to seeing where G Flip’s career goes in the next year and beyond,” Ms Keighery said.

Virgin Australia offers a number of initiatives to support emerging Australian artists including being the only Australian airline to offer individual artists1 up to 64 kilograms of complimentary checked baggage when they are travelling domestically.

Australian artists also have the opportunity to have their music played to more than 24 million passengers each year as well as host a two-hour feature playlist onboard with previous featured artists including Vance Joy; Jimmy Barnes; Garbage; Diesel; Troy Casser-Daley; and The Rubens.

On their In-flight Entertainment, Virgin Australia has also featured the NIDA and Triple J Unearthed Music Video Competition winners since 2014, providing these artists with valuable exposure. The airline is also a major sponsor of Australia’s leading new music festival, BIGSOUND, and features a highlights video onboard in the lead up to each year’s festival.

In addition to this, recently Virgin Australia was shortlisted for the Best Original Audio Award for ‘The Voices of Australia’ soundtrack at the 2019 APEX Awards.
