Hundreds of travel agents from key international markets are learning about Western Australia’s extraordinary travel experiences through a national training event in Perth until October 11.

Corroboree West 2019 combines training workshops and WA familiarisation tours and is hosted by Tourism Australia and the State Government, through Tourism WA.

The event is held exclusively for international travel agents trained through Tourism Australia’s Aussie Specialist Program. The program is run in co-operation with State and Territory tourism organisations, to give international travel sellers the knowledge and skills to successfully sell Australia as a holiday destination.

Around 300 Aussie Specialist frontline retail, wholesale and online travel agents from the UK, Europe, the USA, Canada and New Zealand are attending the event.

They will meet with around 100 Australian tourism operators, to learn about a variety of Australian tourism products and experiences to offer their international customers.

Tourism WA, along with all five Western Australian Regional Tourism Organisations and the Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council are among the 20 WA tourism organisations and operators represented at the event.

As the host city, Perth has the advantage of showcasing WA’s quality tourism attractions to the Aussie Specialist agents before the event begins. Tourism WA-hosted tours to Rottnest Island, Mandurah, Rockingham, the Swan Valley, Fremantle and the Pinnacles will give the agents first-hand experience of the local fresh produce, coastlines, landscapes and flora and fauna, which can be experienced in a day-trip from Perth.

After the event, agents will also be shown the unique beauty of areas such as Exmouth, Karijini National Park, Monkey Mia, Geraldton, Albany, Pemberton and Margaret River, through regional tours.

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

“Corroboree West is an exciting way we can show agents from important international markets what WA can offer their customers.

“Taking a quokka selfie, swimming with whale sharks and being blown away by the spectacular gorges of Karijini; these are unforgettable experiences that will mean they can speak from the heart when recommending a holiday in WA.

“This is the second of three major trade events hosted this year by the State Government, through Tourism WA, showcasing our State’s tourism products to a global audience.

“These opportunities elevate WA in the eyes of the world as a ‘must-do’ travel destination, bring in business for our tourism operators and grow the economy.”
