NEW GOLF MANAGER AT THE VINES TO DRIVE MEMBERSHIP

Wayne Smith appointed to lead Golf Club from August

The Vines Resort Golf & Country Club in the Swan Valley today announced the appointment of Wayne Smith to the Golf Manager’s position effective from August 1st 2019.

Wayne is well known as a professional golfer, commencing in 1984 when he was named the Rookie of the Year in Australia.  After representing his country as a junior in the US, Wayne became the first Australian golfer to be recruited to the US College system. After earning All American honours twice at the University of Georgia, he returned to Australia and won the 1983 Australian Amateur Championship. His career pathway took him to Asia, Europe and then Japan where he won 3 times, and spent 20 years on the professional tours and collecting 8 international victories.

After twenty years on the professional circuit, Wayne retired from tournament golf and started Vault, his own sports management company. Vault managed golf players and ran events for over 10 years and is now owned by Melbourne based Elite Sports Properties.

Since then, Wayne and his son have co-owned two 24/7 gyms but his return to the greens has him very excited, to be involved in golf again – a sport that has been his passion for the past 45 years.

Wayne has a special regard for The Vines Resort, which will be celebrating its 30th Birthday in September, as he attended the opening of the Club in 1987, and then competed in all of The Vines Classics, and the world famous Heineken tournaments.

“Wayne brings a fresh approach, a solid knowledge of the game and experience in the sport, and is extremely well respected amongst peers, Club Members and the golfing audience,” said Mike Stanton, General Manager at the Vines Golf and Country Club and the Novotel Vines Resort.

Wayne is tasked with managing our ever growing membership base along with attracting new members from the local area and maintaining the resort’s sensational members facilities.

“I look forward to meeting all the Members, creatively propelling the Club into the top echelon of golf courses in Australia, and ensuring that the magnificent courses remain world class, and renowned for a challenging game of golf,” said Wayne.
