A thrilling new addition to The Broadway Collection, West Side Story will return to the stage when it opens at the Broadway Theatre on 6 February 2020.The reimagined version of the classic love story features Australian-born actress Yesenia Ayala (playing the role of Anita) and 23 other young actors making their Broadway debuts. It has been directed by Tony Award-winner Ivo van Hove.
West Side Story follows two New York City gangs as they battle over turf on the Upper West Side. However, the situation takes a tricky turn when one gang member falls for a rival’s sister. Inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the original production was created by Arthur Laurents, Jerome Robbins, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim.
Both millennial travellers and fans of the classic musical will appreciate the radical new interpretation of this iconic production, bringing extraordinary dancing and breathtaking visuals to the stage. Hailed as “the most eagerly-awaited production of the new season” by the New York Post, West Side Story will leave a lasting impression on audiences from across the globe.
