A night at the movies is about to get a whole lot quirkier thanks to QT Sydney and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. Sydney’s dynamic cultural duo are teaming up for When Food and Art Collide: A Night with Shaun Gladwell, an exclusive screening of Gladwell’s 2013 film, The Flying Dutchman in Blue.

Held in QT Sydney’s own bespoke theatrette, the QT Screening Room, and programmed on the opening weekend of the artist’s largest survey exhibition Shaun Gladwell: Pacific Undertow at the MCA, attendees will be treated to a night of food and film buff glory.

Guests of the one of a kind and never to be repeated event on Saturday, 20th July will enjoy a bespoke canapé menu by QT Sydney’s Executive Chef, Michael Box including Scallop and Pomegranate Ceviche, Potato Wafers and Mini Chorizo Hotdogs before settling into one of the city’s most historic cinemas for the exclusive screening.

Known for his video works representing the body in motion, Gladwell was originally commissioned to create a film that served as the backdrop to the Rotterdam Philharmonic’s production of Wagner’s opera, The Flying Dutchman.  Gladwell added his own signature flair to the work by reimagining the piece in a contemporary context and reinterpreting the opera as an Australian surf film replacing all sailing references with surfing ones.

QT Hotels and Gladwell have a relationship dating back to 2015 when Gladwell was announced as a QT Bondi’s featured artist with permanent displays of artwork in the beach-chic lobby. The foyer space designed by Nic Graham showcases two digital art installations created by Gladwell for QT Bondi depicting sand, sea and surf. Both QT Hotel and MCA Australia hold works by Gladwell in their permanent collections.

When Food & Art Collide at QT Sydney has been organised in partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia as the Museum’s official Hotel Partner.
