Ever catch yourself staring up at the sky marvelling at the clouds?

For all the cumulus enthusiasts across its global network, the Jetstar Group has today launched A Year In The Clouds; a competition searching for the most spectacular photos of clouds with one lucky winner taking home a year of free travel on the Jetstar network*.

Open to residents over 18 in regions across the Jetstar Group (including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam), A Year In The Cloudscalls for entrants to share a creative snap featuring clouds to their own Instagram or the Jetstar Australia Facebook page using the hashtag #JetstarClouds.

Cloud specialist, international TED Talks sensation, esteemed author and founder of the global Cloud Appreciation Society, Gavin Pretor-Pinney, has been appointed as ambassador for the competition and is thrilled to be judging entries and selecting the grand prize winner.

Dedicating his life to clouds and uniting people over their love of the sky, Pretor-Pinney will be looking for stunning, surprising and creative “looks like” formations in the clouds when selecting the winning shot.

Pretor-Pinney has offered competition participants some expert tips to capture a breathtaking image for their entry.

“Look out for optical effects, such as points, arcs and sunlight shining off droplets or ice crystals in the clouds,” he said.

“In a plane, be careful of reflections off the window. Try holding up a jacket so there’s a darkened area behind you.”

In addition to the grand prize of a year of free travel on the Jetstar network, three local winners in each region will receive a Jetstar travel voucher valued at $200 in the following categories: clouds that look like things, clouds in interesting weather conditions, and cloud shots taken from the window of an aircraft.

On hand to inspire entries in Australia is respected Seven Network meteorologist and weather presenter, Jane Bunn, who herself is passionate about capturing and recording show-stopping weather moments.

“Mother nature creates such incredible visuals every day and I am looking forward to seeing how the entries showcase this through clouds,” Bunn said.

“I encourage everyone to follow my weather updates to keep an eye on when a cloudy day is on the cards to make sure you get the best shot.”

Jetstar Australia and New Zealand Chief Pilot, Jeremy Schmidt, said A Year In The Clouds is a great way to engage with customers.

“As pilots, we get front row seats to stunning views. I have seen many incredible cloud formations from the flight deck and nothing quite compares to a spectacular glowing sunset through the clouds at 30,000 feet,” said Schmidt.

“We are excited to award one lucky winner a year of travel on us so they can explore our network of over 85 destinations in 16 countries.”

Jetstar’s A Year In The Clouds competition is now open for entries and will close at 11:59pm on Sunday 22 September 2019. The major and local prize winners will be announced by Monday 30 September, 2019.
