To mark International Women’s Day, Airbnb has released new data that shows how Airbnb is empowering Australian women. In 2018, women made up more than 60 percent of Airbnb hosts in Australia.

Overall, women hosts in Australia in 2018 earned more than AUD$855 million in extra income, the sixth highest in the entire world.

Airbnb Australia Country Manager Sam McDonagh said more Australian women than ever before are choosing to host with Airbnb.

“Women are the heart of our Australian host community. Hosting is helping women earn vital extra income and provide greater financial security,” Mr McDonagh said.

“The typical female host on Airbnb in Australia earned an extra AUD$7,190 a year in extra income.”

Mr McDonagh added women are also leading the way offering unique and authentic travel experiences for guests.

“Australian women also make up the majority of our Experiences hosts in places like Sydney, Perth and Canberra,” Mr McDonagh said.

“We’re proud that our end-to-end travel platform is making a difference and empowering more Australian women.

“We will continue to work with our local community to offer guests high-quality, unique accommodation and experiences, and create even more economic opportunities for Australian women.”
