Work has commenced at Memphis International Airport (MEM) on a modernisation project that promises “A Better MEM”.

Expected to be complete in early 2021, the extensive works will consolidate and modernise both airline and retail operations in Concourse B of the airport, creating a better travel experience for those passing through the airport.

Removal of the south ends of the A and C Concourses will allow for unobstructed access by aircraft to the entire B Concourse, and new jet bridges will also be part of the modernisation project. Internal works will include the addition of moving walkways, widening of corridors, plus the creation of larger boarding areas, higher ceilings, and natural lighting. All airline, retail, and food & beverage businesses will be consolidated into the remodelled concourse, and additional features will include more charging stations in gate areas, a children’s play area, additional lounge areas, and a stage for live music in the Concourse’s Rotunda area.

Touted as a revolutionary new travel experience for Memphis passengers by MSCAA (Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority)’s President and CEO, there will be 23 gates available to airlines by project completion, accommodating approximately 3 million enplanements which is roughly 50% more traffic than MEM currently has.
