World Expeditions Launches “Pillars for Positive Change” Initiative to Harness Staff’s Passion for Sustainability

Adventure travel specialist, World Expeditions Travel Group, has launched a “Pillars for Positive Change” initiative, an internal program designed to engage its global staff by creating awareness for important global issues, to harness staff passion for sustainability and to inspire them to adopt best practice. 

Twelve separate pillars – one for each month of the initial program – will shine a spotlight on issues including global warming, single plastic use, health & fitness and community service.

According to World Expeditions’ CEO, Sue Badyari, each World Expeditions Travel Group division will be involved, with each championing a pillar during the twelve month cycle.

“We know that the power of people to forge change can and does happen,” Ms Badyari said. “Our vision is to use our collective voice to inspire and educate each other – and the community at large.”

“We know that behaviours have to change and the first step in that process is education,” she said.  “We are confident that this staff program will have the desired effect and our team will be inspired when they see the difference they can make.”

World Expeditions’ Responsible Travel Manager, Donna Lawrence, who will oversee the program, says that each month’s pillar will be clearly profiled to staff, in a way that encourages engagement.”

“Pillars fits perfectly into the WETG culture and will run alongside our day to day operations,” Ms Lawrence said, “with staff from all our offices encouraged to participate, by adding content, providing comments and suggestions and sharing examples of good practices.”

“The fact that we have offices and operations in Australia, UK, Canada and New Zealand will give us a global perspective and we’ll keep content live for staff to reference and to share with their own communities,” she said.  “We’re also open to the possibility of repurposing content for our traveller communities.”

Ms Lawrence said there has been an enthusiastic response from the global team for the initiative thus far, with several staff commenting that they were keen to champion one of the pillars and excited to be part of the collective impact.

“World Expeditions Travel Group is keen to share the data and content generated during the Pillars for Positive Change campaign at the end of the twelve month campaign,” she said.
