Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchisor and leading provider of hotel management services, has expanded its footprint in South Australia with the signing of Ramada by Wyndham Playford, a stylish new property planned for the heart of Adelaide’s booming north.

Construction on the circa $90 million development is scheduled to commence in October this year, with the hotel’s opening scheduled for the first quarter of 2021. The site is within easy walking distance of the Civic Centre and Shedley Theatre, Prince George Plaza, Grenville Hub and Playford Arena. The hotel will operate as a Ramada under an agreement between Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and property owner, Playford City Hotel Pty Ltd.

“Playford is emerging as the gateway city to the northern regional areas of South Australia and the hotel will play a significant role in city’s ongoing expansion. We are proud to have a hotel of this caliber as the first Ramada by Wyndham hotel for South Australia, reflecting the standards of excellence the brand is renowned for worldwide. With its sleek, stylish design and exceptional facilities, Ramada Playford will provide the perfect base for visitors to Adelaide’s booming north,” said Joon Aun Ooi, President and Managing Director, South East Asia and Pacific Rim, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

Upon opening, Ramada Playford will boast a collection of 205 well-appointed rooms and impressive facilities, including a swimming pool, gym, restaurant and sports bar, along with meeting and conference spaces. It will become the first Ramada hotel in South Australia.

“We are pleased to partner with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts to debut the Ramada brand in Adelaide and create a state-of-the-art hotel in such an important hub for the State. The development will set a benchmark for the planned infrastructure to take place across the city over the next five years,” said Andrew Russell-Price, Managing Director, Playford City Hotel Pty Ltd.

Playford is one of the fastest growing areas in South Australia and is tipped to become the CBD of Adelaide’s north, with the population expected to expand from 96,000 to 135,000 by 2036. The hotel’s launch will coincide with a significant expansion of Playford’s infrastructure, including the $885 million Northern Connector Expressway and a $40 million ice sport and recreation centre.

“The agreement with Wyndham brings this world-class hotel another step closer to becoming an iconic landmark in our CBD,” said Playford’s Mayor, Glenn Docherty. “For our community, it is not just a hotel; it is a symbol of our future economic prosperity and the opportunities that it represents,”

The hotel will operate under a license agreement with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, which operates almost 150 hotels across the Southeast Asia and Pacific Rim region. It will be managed by Resort Management by Wyndham, an Australian hotel management subsidiary of Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific.

Playford City Hotel Pty Ltd has appointed award-winning Carlo Pennino of MPH Architects, a boutique South Australian-based architectural firm, which undertakes projects in various sectors including corporate, education, civic, hospitality and master planning. Consulting and asset management services are being provided by Hotellerie.
