Fifty Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific resort and sales managers built bikes for charity this week to support Heartkids. The event took place as part of their annual three-day conference, which is held each year on the Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast based resort developer and vacation club operator has over 45 managed hotels and resorts in its portfolio across Asia Pacific under the Wyndham, Wyndham Grand, Wyndham Garden, TRYP by Wyndham, Ramada by Wyndham and Days Inn by Wyndham brands. The company develops and manages resorts on behalf of Wyndham’s two Asia Pacific vacation clubs, Worldmark South Pacific Cluband CLUB WYNDHAM ASIA.

“In line with our service philosophy to create personalised and memorable experiences for our Club members and guests, we are very pleased to extend service to our community today by building tailor made bicycles for 10 Gold Coast children affected by congenital heart disease,” said Barry Robinson,  President International Operations, Wyndham Vacation Clubs.

“Through our Wishes by Wyndham program we are committed to enhancing the communities in which we operate. Since we launched the program nearly a decade ago we have raised over $335,417 for various charities, including Save the Children in 2018. We are proud to support HeartKids as one of our signature charities for 2019,” he added.

HeartKids is the only national profit for purpose charity dedicated to supporting children, teens and adults affected by congenital heart disease (CHD) all across Australia. It supports the families of the eight babies a day who are born with CHD, of which there is no known cure. HeartKids also funds life-saving research, provides information and advocates for families’ needs.

Hosted by XL Events through its Bike Factory program, Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific teams earned bike parts by completing a series of fun interactive challenges. Once teams collected all their parts, the race commenced to build the bikes. The first group to build a bike; and pass their bike inspection from a qualified mechanic was deemed the bike building champion team.

The real winners on the day however were 10 Gold Coast children aged between six and nine, who each received a bike built especially to their height and frame together with a helmet.

“These bikes not only have brought a smile to 10 young faces today, the event has helped to raise awareness among the community and beyond about the important work that HeartKids does to help navigate the lifelong journey of some 64,000 Australian children, teens and adults affected by congenital heart disease – one of the largest causes of infant death in Australia,” said Rob Lutter, CEO of HeartKids.
