With over 25,000 visitors expected to watch the spectacle, the mega bonfire night celebrations will take place on Plymouth Hoe, in front of Smeaton’s Tower, overlooking the spectacular waterfront. The evening celebrations will begin at 4pm when fairground rides and pop up food stalls open. The presenters of Radio Plymouth will keep visitors entertained with an exciting music programme from 6.30pm on the stage, which will be located on the grassed area near the Royal Citadel.
The Plymouth bonfire is lit at 7.30pm and a fantastic firework display is set to illuminate the Waterfront with a glittering assortment of rockets, fountains and firecrackers lighting up the Royal Citadel at 8pm. Key landmarks on Plymouth Hoe will also be illuminated during the evening including Smeaton’s Tower and the Royal Citadel.

Experience the UK’s oldest gin distillery and a brand new gin tasting boutique in Plymouth
The newly opened Barbican Botanics Gin Room has 98 gins to sample and enjoy
Plymouth is renowned for its famous gin, the aptly named Plymouth Gin and for having the UK’s oldest working distillery. Based in the historic Barbican area of Plymouth, the building dates back to the early 1400s, with the most intact part of the distillery, the Refectory Room – a medieval hall with a fine hull-shaped timber roof built in 1431, being one of the oldest buildings in Plymouth.
The distillery building is steeped in history with the Mayflower Pilgrims famously spending their last night in England here in 1620. It was from the distillery they made the short walk down to the harbour to set sail on the Mayflower on their epic voyage to start a new life in America, where they founded a new Plymouth. The Mayflower ship forms Plymouth Gin’s trademark label today.

Plymouth also has its first dedicated gin joint, The Barbican Botanics Gin Room, which is proving to be just the tonic for lovers of what is fast becoming the nation’s favourite spirit. The Barbican Botanics Gin Room is an artisan gin shop and boutique gin bar which has recently opened in a Grade II listed building in New Street, Plymouth, close to the Ocean Waterfront.
Barbican Botanics has luxurious seating downstairs and a chill-out room on the first floor, where people can take their drink and relax It also has a ‘tasting room’ that can hold 40 people at any one time and offers around 98 different gins, which people can experience by popping into the charming gin room and enjoying a sample.
