Australia’s leading active European holiday specialist, UTracks has updated and expanded its popular guide to the Camino Trails. This quintessential guide, available in print and online, is an invaluable reference for travellers considering undertaking these iconic journeys on foot or by bike.

The guide demystifies the many versions of the Camino de Santiago, colloquially known as ‘The Way’, or the ‘Camino’ which traverses Spain, France and Portugal.

UTracks resident Camino expert, Jaclyn Lofts, who’s walked the entire Spanish Camino and sections of the Portuguese Camino and Le Puy Way, said:

“This resource guide not only answers the regularly asked questions but outlines the different Camino routes, explains the various Camino terminology and provides handy hints from members of our team who have done the Camino.

“Whether you have five days or 42; prefer walking or cycling, guided or self-guided; there is something encompassing and uplifting about walking the Camino.”

Although Spain, France and Portugal are the more widely recognised Camino trails – over 200,000 people each year embark on one of the trails – there is an increasing demand, and improved signposting, for the Swiss and Italian pilgrimages. The Via Francigena, established by the Romans, commences in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland and, via Saint Bernard Pass and picture-postcard scenery, concludes, some 1100kms later in Rome. The St Frances Way follows the footsteps of St Frances of Assisi through Tuscany and Umbria, vineyards and olive groves to Rome.

“While there is a myriad of ways to walk ‘The Way’, when it comes to planning their journey, most prospective pilgrims have the same questions and the UTracks Camino Trails guide also includes a practical, easily understood ready-reckoner of the when, where and how long of many of the Camino Trails across Europe,’ Ms Lofts said.

UTracks offers an extensive collection of walking and cycling trips of varying lengths, guided and self-guided, along the Spanish Camino, French Way of St James, the Portuguese Camino, the Via Francigena and St Frances Way.
