The popular Moana Masters cooking series continues its summer tour of the south with a Low Country Feast – a meal that’s perfect to celebrate summer at the beach or in your backyard. Chef Colin Sato shares step-by-step instructions, recipes and tips on how to make the Southeastern Low Country Seafood Boil on Saturday, July 6 at noon – 2 p.m. at the Moana Surfrider’s oceanfront Beachhouse at the Moana – Grand Salon.
The experience starts with a welcome tasting – seafood and mango ceviche paired with a specialty crafted Bloody Mary. Sato follows this with his demonstration on how to make a luxurious Low Country Seafood Boil with clams and mussels. Similar to a clam bake, the ingredients are boiled instead of grilled. It’s a hit at summer parties where everything is relaxed and casual where eating with your hands is preferred and a lot more fun.
“This is a great way to cook for a summer party. Gather friends in your backyard and get your biggest stock pot out and cook a one-pot meal. It’s a fun meal that can be served on a big picnic table – dumped in the middle and eaten with your hands” says Sato.
Following the demonstration, guests will enjoy the one-pot seafood boil paired with a local vegetable slaw. Extra napkins will be provided for the guests who choose to forgo the fork and eat with hands. And for dessert, guests will be treated to a cobbler duo – stone fruit and mango. Mixologist Chandra Lucariello pairs the meal with mango inspired cocktails.
Each guest who attends this special Moana Masters class will receive a special goodie-bag filled with recipes and surprise gifts.
