Darryl Kelly, Chair of Major Events Gold Coast today announced that Jan McCormick has been appointed as the inaugural CEO of the new entity established to develop and deliver major events on the Gold Coast.

Ms McCormick is the current CEO of Broadbeach Alliance, and in that role has been instrumental in the development of one of the Gold Coast’s iconic annual events, Blues on Broadbeach. Added to this she has in recent years developed the emerging country music festival Groundwater and a number of other major events that have helped put Broadbeach on the map as an event destination.

The appointment comes after an exhaustive recruitment process which attracted hundreds of applicants from around the country and overseas.

“I am delighted to announce Jan’s appointment,” said Mr Kelly. “She has shown that she has what it takes to develop and grow major events, and particularly impressed the MEGC board with her vision for the future growth of events across the whole of the city. I am particularly pleased to appoint a local with a strong understanding of the needs of Gold Coast businesses and residents and what is needed to drive the future growth of the city as an event destination”.

Ms McCormick has expressed her delight at being appointed and has indicated her desire to get to work immediately to bring together the existing three entities which will form the basis for the new MEGC organisation.

“In particular, I want to acknowledge the great work done by the staff of Surfers Paradise Alliance, Broadbeach Alliance and Connecting Southern Gold Coast in supporting their precincts,” said Ms McCormick. “Together we will work to make the Gold Coast one of the pre-eminent event destinations in Australia and beyond.”
