In celebration of World Recycling Week, on Friday 15th November Trafalgar hosted a clothing swap amongst staff to recycle and find a new home for their garments as part of its JoinTrafalgar responsible travel initiatives – with the fashion industry being the second largest polluter in the world (oil being the first).

Australians dispose of 600kgs of clothing every minute. This makes the country the second largest consumer of textiles in the world. Only 15% of all unwanted clothes are given a new life or recycled properly, meaning the majority is thrown away to landfill.

The remaining items that weren’t swapped or sold on the day, are being donated to the Clothing Cleanup, who are committed to reducing our environmental footprint. Together, with this service Trafalgar aims to reduce the amount of textile waste that gets sent to landfill every year.

A token system was in place on the day and funds were raised and donated to the St Vincent’s Bushfire Appeal, urgently raising funds for communities impacted by the devastating bushfires in NSW and Queensland.
