Deauville is a pretty seaside town, built mainly in the 1920s with a genteel, old-fashioned feel and delightful Normandy architecture. There’s plenty going on, winter and summer: horse racing, polo at the oldest club in France, sailing, swimming and shrimping, classical music concerts and photographic exhibitions. And of course, the now famous Deauville American Film Festival that takes place every year at the beginning of September.

Deauville is regarded as, “The Queen of the Normandy Beaches,” and one of the most prestigious seaside resorts in all of France. As the closest seaside resort to Paris, the city and its region of the Côte Fleurie (Flowery Coast) has long been home to French high society’s seaside houses and is often referred to as the Parisian riviera. Deauville has hosted numerous film stars at the American Film festival as well of heads of States at the G8 summit in 2011.

How Do You Arrive?

By train, plane, ferry or automobile, of course.

Direct flights can be booked to Paris and the you can also take a beautiful train ride from Paris Gare Saint Lazare to Trouville. You can also take a 2 hour drive from Paris but don’t forget to stop en route at Giverny – Claude Monet’s garden and home and the Museum of Impressionism.

Enjoy a day at the races (Horse racing in Deauville dates back to 1863), take in a polo match at the Deauville International Polo Club, or sample local fruits and cheeses at the Deauville Market. Shopping is pique here, too, where you have a range of antique stores, decor and Parisien designer boutiques to choose from.
