1. Lake Mulwala, The Murray
Located in The Murray region of NSW, this tranquil lake is known for its majestic red river gums that emerge from the water. Head out at sunrise for the perfect Instagram shot.
2. Narrandera Nature Reserve, Riverina
Known to locals as Koala Reserve, this special spot in the Murrumbidgee Valley National Park is home to over 200 koalas. It’s full of river red gums – bring binoculars to spot the furry creatures and look for the wide variety of birdlife too. Take a picnic rug for lunch by the river.
3. The Living Desert and Sculptures, Broken Hill
If you’ve never visited the unofficial capital of the Outback, plan a trip for Autumn when the weather is pleasant – in April you can attend the Heritage Festival that delves into the city’s fascinating history. Within the Living Desert Reserve are 12 sandstone artworks located on a hilltop – go at sunset for excellent photo opportunities.
4. Bathurst, Central NSW
Bathurst is bursting with Instagrammable locations to love with beautiful heritage architecture, a world-famous racetrack, leafy streets, cellar doors and vibrant cafes. Capture the Bathurst 500 track at Mount Panorama, the Bathurst War Memorial or giant T.Rex skeleton at the Australian Fossil Museum which the kids will love.
5. Gilgandra, Great Western Plains
Ever wondered where the Australian bush call “coo-ee” came from? You’ll find the answer in this historic rural town. For photography enthusiasts, you’ll also find a number of windmills on the Windmill Walk, which runs beside a river – take a photo and show an unexpected side of NSW.
6. Worimi Conservation Area, Mid North Coast
The Worimi Conservation lands is managed by the Worimi people, the local traditional owners. Hire a 4WD and explore the sand dunes and join a quad bike tour to learn how the local people lived off the land – they are expert fisherman. The extraordinary landscape is great for photos.
7. Emerald Beach, Coffs Harbour, North Coast
Located 15-minutes from the coastal hub of Coffs Harbour, Emerald Beach is a local surfing hotspot and a magical place for a swimming, fishing or a BBQ in the picnic area. If you’re lucky you’ll spot a kangaroo making the perfect love heart hands photo opportunity.
8. Bundjalong National Park, North Coast
This resplendent national park has a mix of rivers, beaches and freshwater lagoons. Canoe along Jerusalem Creek, mountain bike the Serendipity fire trail, or wander Pippi Beach and capture a lavender sky at sunset.
9. Kurnell, Sydney
This coastal suburb in South Sydney is known for its excellent snorkelling. Enter the water at Silver Beach and swim east towards Kamay Botany Bay National Park. Take your GoPro and capture giant cuttlefish and weedy sea dragons.
10. Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney
It may be one of the most photographed structures in the world, but it never gets boring trying to capture the perfect shot of this magnificent icon. Here’s a tip: head to the Sydney Opera House forecourt at sunrise – you’ll get a great shot as the sun hits the water looking across to the Bridge in all its glory.
11. Horse Head Rock, Bermagui
Believed to be around 500 million years old, this distinctive formation is a mecca for photographers. Head to the bushwalking track between Camel Rock and Murunna Point for a stunning view.
12. Moruya, South Coast
If you forgot to buy a Valentine’s Day present for your other half – surprise them with a South Coast Seaplane ride. The Tuross Falls flight flies over the Monaro Plateau, visits the Tuross Gorge and waterfall, and zooms over the Eurobodalla coastline – a fantastic new perspective of this incredible part of NSW.
13. Norah Head Lighthouse, Central Coast
This lighthouse is an icon of the Central Coast and has protected the coastline for over 100 years. In 2020 only, you can go on a special full moon tour on certain days of the month. The views from the lighthouse and the lighthouse itself will make a great photo.
14. Audrey Wilkinson Winery, Hunter Valley
This might be one of the most picturesque wineries in the Hunter, with the Brokeback Mountain Ranges in the distance. Try semillon, chardonnay and a gewurztraminer while you’re there.
15. The Hungry Monkey, Kiama
It wouldn’t be a weekend away if you didn’t document a great meal on Instagram. This café is known for its excellent burgers and shakes – we are certain that a Royale burger with ground Angus beef, Monteray Jack cheese, pickles and housemade tomato sauce will inspire a #LoveNSW picture.
