It has come to our attention the article released by Leonie Thorn entitled “Victoria’s coronavirus quarantine program to get a ‘reset’ after breaches” released today, that alleges:
- Stamford Plaza Hotel (SPM) had breached well‐known and well‐understood infection control protocols.
- Stamford Plaza Melbourne was responsible for a total of 29 Covid‐19 cases as of yesterday.
- The spread of the virus was caused by Stamford Plaza Melbourne staff due to them sharing a cigarette lighter and carpooling to work together.
We wish to state that the allegations are false:
a. Stamford Plaza Melbourne had not breached any infection control protocols.
Stamford Plaza Melbourne had been, at the request of the Government of Victoria, Australia (the “Victoria Government’), accommodating returning Australian citizens.
On or about 13 June 2020, a security contractor, personnel hired by the Victoria Government, tested positive for the Covid‐19 virus. This security personnel was not under the employ of Stamford Plaza Melbourne or its related companies.
b. Stamford Plaza Melbourne was not responsible for the purported 29 Covid‐19 cases.
Stamford Plaza Melbourne is not aware of where the 29 cases originated, save to say that these 29 cases did not originate from the staff of Stamford Plaza Melbourne, or from the purported breach of the infection control protocols. We reiterate that Stamford Plaza Melbourne had not breached any infection control protocols.
c. The spread of the virus was not caused by the staff of Stamford Plaza Melbourne.
Following the positive test of the security personnel hired by the Victoria Government, they had proceeded to test all staff of Stamford Plaza Melbourne, and imposed precautionary measures on Stamford Plaza Melbourne and its staff.
No staff of Stamford Plaza Melbourne have tested positive for COVID‐19.
